If you take a look at the picture I have included the truck in it has a type of roll pan bumper. Essentially it is a bumper that matches the contours of the vehicle instead of protruding out like a regular step bumper.

If you want to make a side marker light blink with the turn signal it will have to be tapped into the turn signal/brake light wire for that side. But then it will also come on with the brake lights. And you would not want to also attach it to the running light circuit because it would back feed and lights would come on when they should not.

My technical contact at Hopkins confirmed that if the Hopkins Agility brake controller # HM47294 that you referenced is installed correctly your settings are saved in the memory when the engine on your 1996 Chevy S-10 pick-up is turned off. If you bypass the installation instructions and run it through your fuse panel then the brake controller may shut off and need to be re-set each time your vehicle is started.
